Any Spinning hard drive has five key components that might fail:

1. PCB board: a Printed Circuit Board that has electronics and a Firmware chip.
2. The platter (for storing data),
3. The spindle (for spinning the platters),
4. The read/write arm that carry Heads for reading and writing data.
5. The actuator (for controlling the actions of the read/write arm).

Any of those components might fail and cause a physical or Logical failure to the drive.
